AJUNTAMENT DE REUS

LA CIUTAT

A Town for Living In

Reus is currently undertaking a process of genuine reflection and design of the town of the future on the basis of one common denominator: quality. Quality in the choice of the materials which go to make up the urban landscape – and which help to define what we call the “town brand” - and quality of planning, in the understanding that the urban setting is a shared asset which must work to everyone's benefit. So that people feel comfortable both at home and in the street. So that they can have quality public spaces at their disposal, with green spaces and facilities, so that the urban environment can be the space for human relations that all of us want.
All this has given rise to the town of the 21st century, contained within four rings:
• The tomb de ravals following the course of the former town walls, which sets out to be a contemporary interpretation of the old town centre to make it into an open space in which different uses can co-exist.
• The ring formed by the avenues known as the passejos and rieres, to contain the pedestrian-oriented district, the large, open central shopping area.
• The ring formed by the wider roads known as the rondes, which sets out to assure the connection between the centre and all the suburbs.
• The outer ring formed by the bypasses or variants, which provide access to the new links connecting the town to its surrounding region.
