Bici Reus, lanes and car parks

Reus has more than 65 kilometers of cycle paths in addition to a network of safe routes in which bicycles, scooters or other personal mobility vehicles (VMP) coexist with other vehicles. Reus is committed to safe and healthy urban mobility and within this general framework, measures focused on making Reus a fully cycleable city are promoted.

With the boost from Next Generation European funds, the construction of new cycle lanes has been accelerated, among which those on the avenues of Tarragona, Bellisens, Falset or Salou stand out, in different phases of execution.

Itineraries for bicycles
The Reus City Council publishes on the Geoportal the network of itineraries for bicycles or VMP, which includes the exclusive lanes for this type of vehicle and others, in coexistence with other vehicles. You can check the existing lanes, as well as those that are projected. Check them out in the Geoportal.

Bicycle parking
Bicycle parking in Plaça del MercadalOn the public road
Reus has parking spaces for bicycles on public roads, especially in municipal and educational facilities. There are very central ones such as those in Plaça del Mercadal or Tomb de Ravals and you will also find them next to facilities such as the Municipal Stadium, Mas Carandell, the Municipal Olympic Pavilion or the Tecnoparc Building.

To discover the more than 100 points installed in the city consult the complete plan of bicycle parking at Geoportal.

Outside of specific car parks, you should consider what the Sustainable Mobility Ordinance says about where you can park your bike. Remember that parked bicycles cannot obstruct the movement of people or vehicles and that bicycles cannot be left in loading and unloading areas or spaces for people with reduced mobility. Nor can you tie the bike to street furniture.

Municipal parking lots for bicyclesIn the parking lots
Each underground car park in the municipal network incorporates an area for parking bicycles. These places are free and are guarded. The spaces reserved for bicycles are located in visible places within the car parks and next to a pedestrian exit. In all cases, the space for bicycles is located on the -1 floor next to an elevator from which you can access by bicycle. In the car parks where possible, wheeled access is also allowed through ramps for vehicles; this is the case of the Llibertat, Oques, Carrilet and La Fira Shopping Center car parks (at the entrance via Sant Jordi avenue).

La Ganxeta, the shared public bike
In Reus, the public bicycle sharing system is called Ganxeta. It will be launched in 2024 and will have 250 bicycles and 21 stations spread throughout the city. It can be used through a simple mobile application, where the user can register, choose the collection point, choose the bike and easily remove it from the stations. La Ganxeta, promoted by Reus City Council through the municipal company Reus Mobilitat i Serveis, is the first publicly created and managed shared bicycle system in the territory.

Rights and duties. The regulations

If you go by bike, it is important that you know and adapt to the regulations that regulate it and specifically in Reus, the Sustainable Mobility Ordinance approved in July 2023.

The rights and obligations of cyclists are recognized and the rules related to the circulation of bicycles are collected with the aim of guaranteeing and making compatible the different uses of the public road in an equitable manner.
Remember your responsibilities: ride at a speed that allows you to control the bike, do not use headphones or your mobile phone while riding and avoid dangerous maneuvers.

It is advisable to have civil liability insurance in the event of an accident, unless higher regulations make it mandatory. Helmets are required for children under 16 and recommended for everyone.

Drive at the appropriate speed for each type of road and use visibility elements such as reflective elements or lights. Safety and respect for the rules are crucial to enjoy cycling safely and responsibly.

If you drive a scooter or other VMP, check also this page.

Planning

The document that sets the development guidelines for mobility in Reus, including bicycles, scooters and other VMPs, is the Urban and Sustainable Mobility Plan (PMUS).
The PMUS has among its goals the expansion of a connected, comfortable and safe infrastructure for bicycles, scooters and other VMP. The measures are focused on making Reus a fully cycleable city. Its flat topography, the fact that most streets (with the exception of the center) have a wide section and the launch of the shared bike service predict a continuous growth in the use of bicycles.

Proposed actions:

  • Increase in the offer of car parks and VMP on public roads.
  • Increase and promotion of the offer of car parks and VMP off the public road.
  • Deployment of the bike lane network.
  • Adherence to the Catalan Bicycle Strategy 2020-2025.
