Rosita Mauri was one of Europe's leading ballerinas and a favorite of the artistic circles of her time due to her virtuosity, fascinating personality and tenacity.

Isabel Amanda Rosa Mauri Segura (1849-1923) was the daughter of a ballet master and choreographer from Reus, Pere Mauri - although she was born in Palma de Mallorca, she always flaunted her Reus origins. He began his career under the tutelage of his father. In 1870 he joined the dance corps of the Teatre Principal in Barcelona. After undertaking a tour of Hamburg, Milan, Vienna, Rome and Berlin and training with prestigious masters such as the Belgian choreographer Henri Dervine at the Lyceum Theatre, she was appointed principal dancer at the Main Theatre.

He made the big leap in his artistic career in 1877 dancing at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he caught the attention of Charles Gounod. The French composer persuaded the Paris Opera Ballet to hire her, where a year later she premiered the opera ballet Polyeucte. From 1880 she became one of the stars of the Ballet of the Paris Opera, and premiered roles such as Yvonette from the ballet La Korrigane (1880), Gourouli from Les deux pigeons (1886), both by the choreographer Louis Mérante or L'étoile (1887) by J. Hansen. He also danced in opera ballets like El Cid (1885) by Jules Massenet, with a role created especially for her. His interpretations of some ballets created school, as is the case of Sylvia by Mérante with music by Léo Delibes. After retiring from the stage, he taught, between 1898 and 1920, future generations of dancers at the school of the Paris Opera. When she died in 1923 she was buried in the Montparnasse cemetery.
