Reus, City of Science and Innovation

A benchmark for the new economy

The investment planned by the Reus City Council group for the innovative projects included in the candidacy is almost 80 million euros.
Reus aspires to be a reference in the new economy, science, research and innovation in alliance with the university, the productive sector, the local administration and society. From the Tecnoparc Technology and Innovation Park, several initiatives are being promoted such as the Foodtech & Nutrition Hub or the Reus Living Lab, focused on promoting innovation in the agri-food sector and generating talent.

In the university field, the city hosts Medicine and Health Sciences studies and a specific degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, in addition to chairs linked to entrepreneurship and business innovation. Also noteworthy is the research developed in the city by research centers such as Eurecat, IRTA, the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute or the Center for Òmiques Sciences.

Occupation

Reus is already the second city in ICT employment in Catalonia, leading the implementation and creation of jobs through different tools such as the ICT and Foodtech Incubator, promoted by the Reus City Council through REDESSA and which have accompanied more than 50 start-ups, creating 183 jobs and generating a turnover of more than 5 million euros, and the ICT Cluster, which is also headquartered in the Tecnoparc.

For this reason and also for other innovative projects and initiatives in the social and sustainability field such as RENATUReus, the Young Lab Prototypes project, which promotes the participation of young people in city projects, the Digital Training Center, Soulfood or a European project to seek technological solutions against food waste or the Sandbox, which aims to establish test, trial and experimentation spaces for innovative products and services, Reus has been deserving of the City of Science and Innovation distinction awarded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

Innpulso Network

Being a City of Science and Innovation allows Reus to be part of the Innpulso Network which, with the new appointments, will be made up of 112 municipalities across the State. The Innpulso Network fosters collaboration between town halls and promotes policies such as Public Procurement of Innovation, support for SMEs and innovative entrepreneurs and defends innovation criteria, encouraging participation in European Union projects.

Being part of this network makes it easier for Reus to share with other cities both experiences and good practices in terms of innovation, in addition to participating in collaborative projects in the field of science and research, which are difficult to access if you are not part of this platform.

Investment of 80 million euros

The investment planned by the Reus City Council group for these innovative projects designed to have a cleaner, safer, more inclusive, fairer, greener and more competitive city is almost 80 million euros.
