Heritage

The value and interest of the city is not limited to a set of symbolic buildings. It is also found in the dialogue between constructions from different eras, in the relationship between emblematic buildings and apparently more modest houses, in street patterns or path networks. For this reason, Reus has a Special Plan for the Protection of Historical, Artistic and Natural Heritage. Its aim is to protect individual pieces of architecture and the natural environment, and also some streets or urban fabric and certain parts of the territory because all these elements make up a collective heritage that needs to be preserved.
Heritage catalog
The Special Plan for the Protection of the Historical, Artistic and Natural Heritage of Reus aims to revitalize the city's heritage by giving some buildings new uses. Thus, the aim is to find the balance between the use and conservation of the buildings.
The Plan catalogs up to 500 heritage assets and defines their degree of protection. Each one has a defined patrimonial value, which can cover an entire complex, just a building or a single part of the property. The highest level of protection is provided by Casa Navàs, the Pere Mata Institute and the Priory of Sant Pere.
Heritage assets are classified in the following areas:
- Buildings and properties, with four levels of protection
- Architectural and urban elements
- Urban spaces
- Rural areas
- Plant areas
- Plant elements
- Archaeological sites
