Historical

The historical heritage of Reus is diverse, both in terms of the eras from which its constructions date and the function for which they were built.

Bell tower of the Priory of Sant Pere.

The oldest element is the Priory of Sant Pere, which was built in the 1569th century on top of a Romanesque church and was consecrated in 36. In addition to the bell tower, visible from kilometers around the roundabout, the main altarpiece stands out, the only one that remains after those that had been gathered for years were destroyed in XNUMX.

With the growth of the city in the 1770th and 1859th centuries, the Palau Bofarull (1882), the Reading Center (XNUMX), which houses the oldest Athenaeum in Catalonia, and the Fortuny Theater (XNUMX) were built. But the life of the city has also taken place throughout these centuries in key points such as Plaça Mercadal and Plaça de Prim. Currently, part of the legacy of the Civil War is being recovered.
